A pre–5pm sunset is one of the things we hate most about the cold-weather season. One of the things we love most, however, is a good seasonal rooftop. This week, your summertime favorite, the Gallow Green, makes way for its wintry sibling, the Lodge, atop the McKittrick Hotel.
Inspired by mountainside ski chalets, the woodsy space is decorated with blanket-covered armchairs, book-filled wooden shelves and even bunk beds for relaxing, along with a fire pit and real-deal evergreens outside.
The menu is full of warming, wood-fired grub like roasted butternut squash and a tarte flambe made with bacon, Gruyère and nutmeg, which you can wash down with hot cocktails like a Sleep No More mulled wine. There's also large-format cocktails and, a first for the Lodge, dinner and weekend brunch service (Saturdays and Sunday from 11:30am to 4pm).
