The tower lights on the Empire State Building will go dark on Friday night to honor the victims of the attack in Barcelona that left 13 people dead and scores more injured.

On Thursday afternoon, a van smashed into people on Las Ramblas, a popular tourist destination in the city. Later in the day, another car rammed into pedestrians in the nearby town of Cambrils, killing one person.

The statement from the Empire State Building follows Governor Andrew Cuomo's direction to light the spire on One World Trade Center in red and yellow on Thursday night in solidarity with the people of Spain.
