Target is coming to the East Village in 2018, and we don’t know how to feel about it.
Representatives confirmed that the mega-chain will occupy a new, two-level space on E 14th St near Avenue A, which is set to open two summers from now. Currently, there’s a Target located in East Harlem, and one set to open in Tribeca this October, but we think the East Village outpost may conjure some mixed emotions. Y'know, like how some people felt about the new and very Brooklyn Apple store opening Williamsburg.
If you’re not totally comfortable with Target invading a hip neighborhood, you might be happy to know that the merchandise is going to play heavily on the urban, downtown scene. A spokeswoman for the brand says this particular location will carry “locally-relevant” merchandise for East Village shoppers. So does that mean, like, punk-rock duds, records and Patti Smith posters? We'll be anxiously waiting.
