We here at Time Out New York are usually obsessed with bringing you the coolest, most-exciting things happening around the city on any day. But occasionally, it's worth noting the things you definitely shouldn't do. When it comes to first dates, at least. These 19 things are (mostly) amazing in the right situation, but that situation is definitely not getting to know someone you just met online.

RECOMMENDED: Full guide to date ideas in NYC

1. Hitting up a sample sale

2. Going to Escape The Room

3. Competing in an ultra competitive bar trivia night

4. Karaoke, anywhere

5. Going to Comedy Cellar. They will sit you in the front and pick on you.

6. Going Freegan aka dumpster diving for food outside of a grocery store in Midtown East

7. Casually hitting up the newest exhibit at the Museum of Sex

8. Going to a loud sports bar (with their friends)

9. A strip club

10. A shooting range

11. Anything that you have a group coupon for. There’s no way to be stealth about it.

12. A tattoo parlor

13. Getting dinner at Guy's American Kitchen & Bar

14. Waiting in line for cronuts/rainbow bagels/the latest viral food craze

15. Spending the day at a public pool

16. Picking them up in a car2go (This may actually be brilliant and hilarious.)

17. Going on a run or doing pretty much anything that tests your fitness level.

18. Bike riding in Prospect Park. Helmet hair is not sexy.

19. A cat café. Even if you really love cats. You can do better.
