Take a load off in Times Square in these cool recliners

Times Square isn’t known as the Crossroads Of The World for nothing: It’s one the most crowded places anywhere. So imagine lying down smack in the middle of it. That’s the idea behind the latest project sponsored by the Times Square Alliance.

Starting August 24th, the pedestrian plaza at Broadway and Seventh Avenue will host XXX TIMES SQUARE WITH LOVE, three bright-purple outdoor loungers created by German architect Jürgen Mayer H. They’re all X-shaped in homage to the intersection known as “The Bow-Tie,” but judging from the title, they also might be harkening back to Times Square’s pornographic past.

Each recliner accommodates four people (one for each leg of the X)—which, if you do the math, means that up to 12 lounge lizards can share in the sin of sloth and tweet about it on #TSqXXX. A couple of things to keep in mind: A) The homeless and those costumed panhandlers will love these things; B) lying down outside in the middle of Manhattan presents a larger target for pigeon poop.
