Though most of the buildings that will change the look of New York over the next five years are as yet unfinished, a couple are open for business, including one that’s arguably the coolest new building in NYC. Vagelos Education Center at Columbia University Medical Center is 14 stories of pure deconstructionist delirium. The structure is the creation of the starchitect firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R), a design they’ve dubbed the “Study Cascade.” Cascade it does as the facade zigs and zags this way and that down a building that’s caused quite a stir in the design world. These photos show what the fuss is all about.
