Much like Ralph Lauren’s jump into the fine dining industry, here’s another retailer that’s dipping its proverbial toe in the world of hospitality. It’s been rumored that mega home-decor chain, Restoration Hardware, is opening a new shop in the Meatpacking District, but Crain’s New York reports that 55 Gansevoort Street will be home to the brand’s first-ever hotel and restaurant.
It’s safe to say that the 25,000-square-foot building (encompassing 14 rooms) will be pretty swank, decked out in Restoration’s furniture and fixtures. Though the brand has yet to comment, it sounds like there’s going to be a little friendly competition between The Gansevoort and The Standard (plus, a lot of construction in the Meatpacking District) in the near future.
