Earlier this week, a once-in-a-generation event took place in New York. It was a moment that brought all New Yorkers together in a wondrous display of unity and reminded us all that, at the end of the day, there’s far more that we have in common than separates us. For on Monday, August 21, a giant inflatable banana was installed in Madison Square Park.
The banana was installed by Chiquita to coincide with another major experience shared by the masses that day, the solar eclipse. (Because the sliver of sun peeking out from behind the moon looked like a banana, get it?) However, for reasons as mysterious as the forces which govern celestial bodies, the promotional banana has remained installed across from the Flatiron Building since then. Much to the delight of local Instagram enthusiasts.
