Besides helping to change New York’s skyline, One Vanderbilt will be offering stunning views of it, too. SL Green, the developers behind the 1,401-foot glass tower currently rising from a site near Grand Central, announced that the new building (New York’s second tallest) will include an observation deck when it opens in 2020. Parked 1,020 feet above the street, the indoor/outdoor deck will be the third highest behind 30 Hudson Yards (which measure in at 1,100 feet) and the Empire State building (1,050 feet). The highest deck in the city is the observatory at One World Trade Center (1,250-feet), but it’s indoor only. Among other vistas, the deck will afford a close-up view of the Chrysler Building located one block east. The design team for the deck is GSM Project, the Montreal concern behind the observatories atop the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and The Shard in London.
