New luxury movie theater in Midtown will serve tacos and booze

I have a thing about movie theaters in New York. I've ranted about it a few times. I know I should probably stop complaining, and give Gotham's megaplexes a chance. But then I get reminded of the horror of seeing movies in NYC when during a viewing of Power Rangers a single man brings four children under the age of four to sit in the row behind me, while the dude directly ahead of me is facetiming—during the Megazord Battle.

But things are changing, as upscale theaters restore luxury to the moviegoing experience. As Nitehawk, Alamo Drafthouse and iPic open new locations with frills like in-theater dining, stacked bars and special screenings, more theaters are jumping in on the fine-viewing game.

Come September, Landmark Theaters will be setting up shop at the new 57 West complex. Along with the dope leather couches and popcorn with real butter that the theater is known for, this location will include a restaurant that offers tacos, beef sliders, popcorn sliders and a full bar. Hell's Kitchen residents are in for a new high-standard movie hub, and can expect plenty of filmmaker Q&As and late-night cult feature screenings once the theater opens.

Not that anyone asked, but I happen to live for the Landmark. I once crushed a double feature of Dom Hemingway and Jodorowsky's Dune at 2pm on a Monday (after seeing Captain America: The Winter Soldier the previous night... I was probably depressed). Anyway, I was relaxing on my leather sofa in an empty theater, listening to a rundown of the movie from the usher, eating Pockys, and getting my life. I wish you the same come September.
