New 3-D printing shop in Soho will turn you into an action figure

Ready to confront your own 3-D selfie? DOOB—one of the most recent and quirkiest stores to hit the Soho shopping scene—uses a patented 3-D scanning technology to doob-licate ridiculously realistic figurines of you, your family and even your favorite furry friend.

The business launched in Dusseldorf, Germany, where the technology was originally developed for medical purposes like scanning cancer patients for prosthetics and facial implants. Now on the retail side, step into the Wooster Street hub, where a white-paneled chamber (a.k.a. the biggest photo booth you’ve ever seen) uses 54 cameras to capture a 360-shot of you striking your very best pose. Don’t worry; a poser posing expert will be there to make sure you look sharp.

After your close-up, the photo files are transmitted to computers at DOOB’s warehouse in Brooklyn, where a set of printers create your miniature (the smallest costs $95) or life-size ($695) tchotchke. In 2-3 weeks your figurine is delivered to your doorstep. We imagine the feeling you get while opening the box induces the same sentiment as your Great Aunt’s Precious Moments collection, but with the cool-factor of owning your very own action figure.
