Beginning October 1st, strollers through Metro Tech commons will soon be getting a small taste of the forest primeval—and we do mean small: For his latest public art project, artist Spencer Finch will be planting a grove of miniature redwood trees in in Downtown Brooklyn. Previously known for his installation of colored-glass window panes on The Highline, Finch will be creating a 1:100 scale model of the 790-acre Redwood National Park in California. Fed by a special irrigation system, Finch’s redwoods measure one to four feet, compared to the 98 to 380 feet typical of a mature redwood. But who knows? The show will be up for almost two years, so expect Finch’s piece to grow on you.
