[title]
Each week, we take two New Yorkers who swear they're totally undateable, and put our matchmaking skills to the test. Afterward, we find out what went well on their date, and what went horribly, horribly wrong.
Why they're single:
Matthew: He recently moved to New York and hasn’t found the right person yet.
Sean-Patrick: He doesn’t do online dating, and it’s really hard to meet people.
Ideal date:
Matthew: Going to get authentic Italian food on a rooftop and listening to Top 40 radio
Sean-Patrick: Drinking cheap beer at a dive bar, thrifting or karaoke
THE DATE
First impression
Matthew: “We had an awkward moment of shaking hands. The first thing I thought was, He’s not my type, but he was energetic and friendly. And wet, because it was raining.”
Sean-Patrick: “Matthew was talking to the waiter, and the waiter was standing up, so I thought the waiter was my date. I shook the waiter’s hand and realized my date was not him.”
Chemistry
Matthew: “After the first five minutes, we knew it wasn’t going anywhere romantically, so it was more me trying to get him to laugh and smile and talk about what he enjoys.”
Sean-Patrick: “He was a cute person, but I knew right off the bat he’s not someone I normally would date. We talked about what our least favorite foods were for an absurdly long time.”
Awkward Moment
Matthew: “I threw out some conversation topics. I’m a huge Lady Gaga fan, and I really like Harry Potter, but he wasn’t really vibing on anything so I was like, This is so awkward.”
Sean-Patrick: “The waitstaff treated us like royalty. We kept saying, ‘Oh, they know we’re on a blind date.’ We thought it was funny that we were being treated like celebrities.”
Afterward
Matthew: “After we ate, we asked for the check, got up and left. We hugged and parted ways, but we didn’t exchange any information. It was really friendly and fun.”
Sean-Patrick: “We didn’t exchange numbers or anything, but we said we couldn’t wait to see when our date was in the magazine. We just have completely different lives.”
Verdict
Matthew: ♥♥ “I thought it was worth the opportunity to connect with someone, but it turned very platonic. Our personalities didn’t click that well.”
Sean-Patrick: ♥♥♥ “It was fun, not stressful. I just don’t think we’d ever hang out again. We didn’t have much in common. Nothing crazy happened that I could spill to you.”
