[title]
Each week, we take two New Yorkers who swear they're totally undateable, and put our matchmaking skills to the test. Afterward, we find out what went well on their date, and what went horribly, horribly wrong.
Why they're single:
Luis: He just moved to New York this year and is still adjusting to the city.
Jorge: It’s not easy for him to find someone who can keep up with his pace.
Ideal date:
Luis: Going to a dive bar, getting some beer and having some pizza after
Jorge: Grabbing a few drinks and then going to a movie or hanging out on a rooftop
THE DATE
First impression
Luis: “He was very cute and dove into asking me questions right away. He seemed to be really into going out. I could tell he was a native New Yorker from his accent.”
Jorge: “When I first saw him, he looked a bit nervous. I think he was kind of shy and a bit nerdy, but a nice person. By the looks of him, I saw more of a friend-zone situation.”
Chemistry
Luis: “I quickly realized we were very different. He spent a lot of time talking about the bars he went to, and going out until 4am, and I was like, ‘That’s not my life.’”
Jorge: “It was more like a conversation you would have with a friend. Our one similarity was that we both have Spanish backgrounds and come from large families.”
Awkward Moment
Luis: “I asked him if he’d seen It and he was like, ‘Yeah, it sucked. Did you see Suicide Squad? That was a good movie.’ That’s when I knew it wasn’t gonna work out.”
Jorge: “He was ordering a glass of wine, and I was like, ‘Let’s just get a bottle! Rosé, please.” And he kind of paused. I like to drink! I think he ended up appreciating it, though.”
Afterward
Luis: “We finished dinner and then walked to the L train together. He gave me a hug and got off at the Bedford stop. There was no number exchange or anything.”
Jorge: “We took the subway together after dinner, and he was just like any other stranger on the train. There was some awkward silence, then I just kind of said goodbye.”
Verdict
Luis: ♥♥ “I wanted to meet someone outside my comfort zone and he definitely was. He’s a sweet guy, just not really my type. It was almost like two different worlds.”
Jorge: ♥♥♥ “I think our overall lifestyles are different. He seemed like he wanted to be at home listening to podcasts, whereas I want to be going out and Snapchatting my life.”
