[title]
Each week, we take two New Yorkers who swear they're totally undateable, and put our matchmaking skills to the test. Afterward, we find out what went well on their date, and what went horribly, horribly wrong.
Why they're single:
Katy: She’s a hopeless romantic who wants a true gentleman.
CJ: Doesn’t prioritize dating
Ideal date:
Katy: April 25—it’s not too hot, not too cold; all you need is a light jacket.
CJ: Drinks at a rooftop bar, then something active like Jet Skiing
THE DATE
First impression
Katy: “He wasn’t my usual type, but he seemed friendly and had a really nice smile. I went into it with zero expectations, and he was a lot cuter than I was imagining.”
CJ: “The hostess was in front of me, then peeled away at the last minute, revealing Katy like in a TV show. My first thought was, Whoa, this girl looks like Lady Gaga.”
Chemistry
Katy: “The conversation flowed really easily. He laughed at my awful jokes and asked a lot of questions about me. He proved that I shouldn’t judge a bro by his button-up.”
CJ: “We talked about what we like to do and our jobs and bad previous dates we’ve been on. It was nice because she was super easy to talk to.”
Awkward Moment
Katy: “After our meal, we walked outside the restaurant and hugged. He gave me an awkward shoulder pat ,and we went our separate ways. He didn’t ask for my number.”
CJ: “We were guessing where we each live, and she guessed first, and it took her two or three guesses. When it was my turn I immediately said, ‘Bushwick.’ Fair enough, she did.”
Afterward
Katy: "He was heading to a party in Murray Hill and said, ‘I guess I’ll see you in print.’ I learned what his DJ name in college was, but we didn’t exchange information other than that.”
CJ: “We said bye at the corner with a hug, and then she gave me this look, like, Are you going to ask me for my phone number? But I felt more of a friendly vibe.”
Verdict
Katy: ♥♥♥ “We ended up having really great energy and enjoying each other’s company, but I think we were feeling more of a friend vibe rather than a romantic one.”
CJ: ♥♥♥ “It was super enjoyable and fun, but I just didn’t feel ‘I’m going to want to date you repeatedly for a long period of time.’ But we totally hit it off.”
