Each week, we interview an interesting and stylish New Yorker about his or her life in the city. Meet Lane Moore, a comedian, writer, singer-songwriter and a whole lot more.
Tell me about yourself.
I’m in a band called It Was Romance. I do a show every month called Tinder Live!, and I do stand-up all over the city. I have a podcast called Are You Afraid of the Snark?, and I was just on HBO’s Girls. And I was an editor at Cosmopolitan for the last few years and won a GLAAD award.
Wow! How do you balance it all?
I don’t sleep or relax. A lot of New Yorkers have this who-can-be-the-busiest outlook, and I don’t think that’s a contest anyone should win. My life has been super intense. I want to help myself and use art to process difficult shit, but I also want to give back.
You swipe in real time in front of an audience at Tinder Live! What do you hope the show conveys?
I’m a hopeless romantic, and moving to New York has been a real punch in the face. I end up taking the role that I believe most New Yorkers have, which is we’re not actually cynical and we don’t hate everyone. We want to believe in magic.
What’s your style like?
Futuristic Jem. I basically want to look like a human Delia’s catalog.
