The demand for a sequel to Tim Burton’s beloved 1988 goth comedy Beetlejuice is still strong nearly three decades later, but while the world waits for the director to coax Michael Keaton back into that black-and-white striped suit, you can get a taste of a Burtonian wonderland at this East Village theme bar at 308 East 6th Street.
The brainchild of Zach Neil and Brian Link—the same team that runs the nearby Will Ferrell–inspired bar Stay Classy New York—the 43-seat barroom is dressed with artwork, props and memorabilia from Beetlejuice and fellow Burton classics like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Sweeney Todd, along with shrunken heads, antique books and surgical equipment. Game bartenders are costumed in bow ties and top hats or Victorian-era dresses, while the doorman is dressed like the titular ghoul himself.
Dishes and drinks also pay homage to the films, like a Barber’s Bloody Mary, an Egg Skellington with crispy pancetta and a seven-cheese Cheshire Mac with sea-salt bread crumbs. Check out photos and the full food menu below.
