Thick plumes of smoke can currently be seen billowing over Manhattan from what's being reported as a 2 Alarm Fire at the NYU medical center.
The fire is on the fifth floor near the Kimmel pavilion that's currently under construction. The city's office of emergency management is urging people to avoid the area as firefighters work on fighting the blaze at First Avenue and East 30th Street. It's not clear at this time what started the fire.
