Yesterday, the budget was finally approved for the new Port Authority Bus Terminal. Okay, it’s not all the money they wanted, but $29.5 billion isn’t a bad compromise, right?
The sum actually covers renovations of La Guardia Airport as well, which means that the bus station gets just $3.5 billion. And we do mean “just”—estimates for the project were originally between $8 and $10 billion.
The new Port Authority project would replace the garbage heap it currently is with a shiny new terminal, along with all-new ramps to the Lincoln Tunnel and a new parking garage for buses.
A new Port Authority and a new Second Avenue subway? You’re too kind, MTA.
