Whether you're going on 25 or 55, you shouldn't have to worry about pesky things like being sober or paying for food on your birthday. In the spirit of celebration, New York City restaurants are handing out gratis goods for in-the-know birthday boys and girls. From a half pound of BBQ to swanky sushi rolls, here are five ways to eat free on your special day.

Ben & Jerry’s
The deal: Scoops of ice cream at any location.
How to get it: Sign up for the ChunkMail newsletter and print the confirmation email with your coupon. Redeem it at one of their scoop shops—which means you’ll have to brave the tourist epicenters of Rockefeller Center or Times Square.

BrisketTown
The deal: A half pound of meat for dine-in customers at Delaney BBQ's Williamsburg cue counter.
How to get it: Sign up for the Delaney BBQ email newsletter at least five days prior to your big day. They’ll send you an email with a message that you can present for free meat at the restaurant.

The deal: $20 gift certificate
How to get it: Enroll in the sushi spot’s monthly newsletter and receive the email gift certificate valid for your birthday month.

La Contenta
The deal: Mexican dessert and barrel-aged mezcal
How to get it: Just tell them! To celebrate your cumpleaños, this Mexican spot will send you a sweet dish of the chef's choosing and pour you a shot of their finest smoky agave spirit.

The deal: Pitcher of Pilsener Haus Original Bier (plus another pitcher for every 10 people you bring)
How to get it: Sign up for the restaurant's email and you'll get this offer during your birthday month. Just print out the email and bring a picture ID to confirm that it's indeed your birthday.
