The L train may be shutting down, but at least we’re getting ferries! Starting next summer, a new citywide ferry service is launching. That includes 10 new ferry docks, routes to the Rockaways and Astoria in June and even on-board alcohol.

But wait, there’s more: It was just announced that there will also be free shuttle buses taking you from the Rockaways ferry stop to various nearby locations. Yes, that includes Rockaway Beach, and yes, we’re already dreaming about being at the beach even though it’s barely winter yet.

The new shuttles with take two routes with six stops each. The eastbound stops run from the ferry terminal to Beach 35th Street, and the westbound stops go to 169th Street and also include a drop-off at Jacob Riis Park Road & Bath House.
