Chinatown cheap-eats favorite Prosperity Dumpling to reopen next month

Last summer, an anonymous tipster—along with the help of Gothamist—singlehandedly took down iconic Chinatown cheap-eats spot Prosperity Dumpling. The whistle-blower’s aerial photo of the dollar dumpling spot’s "kitchen," which led to the restaurant's closure the very next day, depicted a back-alley prep table, with a rat scurrying behind the (gloveless) cooks.

But mega-fans of Prosperity’s sumptuous pockets of pork and chive couldn’t care less about its en plein air style of cooking—Time Out-ers included. For the past few months, we’ve been assuaging our cravings at LES sister location C&C Prosperity Dumpling, but, thankfully, Prosperity will soon return to its two-storefront glory with the imminent reopening of the original eatery.

According to Bowery Boogie, Prosperity will reopen next month at 365 Broome Street in Little Italy. The neighborhood blog claims to have knowledge of work permits for the site filed with the city's Department of Buildings, but more immediately telling is the fact that a Chinese-inscribed, octagonal wall ornament that once occupied the old Eldridge Street location is now displayed at the new Broome space. Earlier this month, Prosperity’s Yelp page advertised a February 23 reopening, so look to get your next (hopefully vermin-free) dumpling fix around then.
