New Yorkers absolutely love their pets, and they love taking them outside and showing them off. But, unfortunately, our furry friends are not allowed inside many places we need to go. So it's a familiar sight to see pups left tied up outside of grocery stores, clothing shops and pharmacies. When photographer Erik Carter moved to NYC from Dallas, he noticed this phenomenon around the city, something he says he wasn't used to seeing elsewhere, Slate reports. He began to document the resigned, downtrodden faces of dogs left waiting alone for their owners, possibly wondering if they'll ever return. The result is a sad, but very endearing, series of photos of New York pooches.
Check out Carter's work below, and don't forget there are dog-friendly bars if you want your best little friend to accompany you on your next outing!
