The public art installation of the year is going down, way down. Since February, art lovers (that's you, New Yorkers) have been waiting with bated breath for "Descension," a giant whirlpool, to come to Brooklyn Bridge Park, and now it's officially open. Created in celebration of the Public Art Fund's 40th anniversary, this 26-feet-wide swirling pool on Pier 1 in a sight to behold. The artist, Anish Kapoor, is known for his work exploring voids, and this body of water, unlike the nearby East River, seems to be bottomless. If you haven't gone yet the installation is open until September 10, and here's some mesmerizing pics from the Public Art Fund and visitors on Instagram to distract you until you visit.
