Notable for its gargantuan Drill Hall and Tiffany-designed Veterans Room, the Park Avenue Armory has hosted impressive art installations that have included everything from giant concrete pipes to an indoor lake flooding the space. The latest such spectacular comes courtesy of artist Julian Rosefeldt, whose multi-screen video extravaganza stars Academy Award-winner Cate Blanchett. Titled Manifesto, the work features Blanchett reading excerpts from 50 artistic declarations by various 20th century figures. Blanchett assumes 13 different roles on as many screens, declaiming the texts as characters ranging from a corporate CEO to a homeless man. The dramatic monologues are delivered simultaneously, filling the space with a cinematic storm of sights, sounds and stirring rhetoric. Manifesto is on view until January 8.
