"Brexit" inspires Staten Island lawmaker to call for borough to secede from NYC

Voters in the UK may have made a questionable decision last week by voting for a “Brexit” and deciding to leave the European union, but that hasn’t stopped one Staten Island politician from calling for the borough to follow suit. 

NYC Councilmember Joe Borelli (R-Staten Island) took to Facebook on Thursday to suggest that the island should “reconsider what so many have supported.” Staten Island voters approved a plan to break away from NYC in 1993.
