In the city, commuting via bike during rush hour is treacherous and weekend rides through the park are cramped with tourists. But offer unlimited beer after a woodsy jaunt upstate? Sign us up!

The Bike to Beer Benefit on Saturday, September 27 starts and ends at Captain Lawrence Brewing Company in Elmsford, NY—an hour-long Metro North ride from Grand Central. Register to pedal a 25- or 55-mile scenic course for $35, a portion of which benefits City Growers, a nonprofit organization educating NYC students about agriculture.

Did I mention there’s endless beer at the end? When you complete the course, head to the brewery’s tasting room for unlimited pours (Freshchester Pale Ale, Liquid Gold) and optional tours of the brewing facility. To refuel after your journey, buy beer bites like wood-fired pizzas and falafel with hummus from local eateries Gleason's and Birdsall House.

The ride might be so scenic that you'll want to roll Bill Cunningham-style, with camera in tow. Or, if upstate isn’t your thing, go for a quick city stroll using our foolproof guide to renting and riding Citi Bikes.
