The New York City Emergency Management Department has issued a travel advisory for the morning and evening commutes today.
Rain changed over to snow early this morning, resulting in a wintry mix that's created dangerous road conditions. Temperatures for the rest of the day are forecast to be below freezing with nighttime temperatures dropping into the 20s, creating the potential for slick roads.
The NYC Department of Sanitation is planning on deploying 579 salt spreaders across the city, but you still might want to give yourself a little extra time to get to work today. You'll also want to keep an eye out for slippery sidewalks. (Alternate side parking has been suspended, but parking meters remain in effect.)
The travel advisory was announced after the National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the entire New York City area last night.
In other words, today's the day to break out those new boots.
