As if merely watching a film in NYC wasn’t entertaining enough, Manhattan is about to get its first-ever 4DX movie theater—y’know, so you can actually feel the wet, sticky moisture on your face when an actor spews blood during an intense blow to the face.
Bedford and Bowery reports that CJ 4DPlex, a South Korean company, which has upgraded theaters around the globe, will bring its immersive cinemas to Regal’s Union Square and Times Square locations this winter. So what does 4DX entail, exactly? Well, the theaters will be outfitted with motion seats that are synced to the action sequences on screen (it’s going to be a bumpy ride). Some chairs even pump out scents like perfume and coffee, and spit water during super-gross moments. Expect to shriek every time an actor sneezes.
B&B notes that New York’s 4DX auditoriums will hold an estimated 120 to 140 people and should be up and running by November or December, depending on construction. That should be plenty of time to catch the much-anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice flick in 4DX this March—please, just take our money already!
