Today XXL magazine released the cover of its annual Freshmen Issue, which recognizes rising hip-hop talent and serves as a (hotly debated) bellwether for the genre. Anderson .Paak, 21 Savage, Kodak Black, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Dicky, Dave East, Denzel Curry, Desiigner, G Herbo and Lil Yachty all earned spots on the list representing various ends of rap spectrum. Desiigner, of the inescapable No. 1 song "Panda," you've probably heard. Anderson .Paak, you should know, for releasing the excellent soul/hip-hop opus Malibu earlier this year. Lil Dicky, maybe you've seen his Weird-Al-esque shtick in his cameo-filled "$ave Dat Money" video. But if the list is mostly unfamiliar to you, well, there's still some time to get acquainted before the Freshmen Live show comes to the PlayStation Theater on Tuesday, June 28th. Right now the lineup for that includes Desiigner, Lil Dicky, Lil Yachty, Dave East and Denzel Curry (tickets are on sale via Axs).
You'll have a chance to see some the other Freshmen in NYC on their own this summer . Lil Uzi Vert and 21 Savage both play Irving Plaza June 29. Anderson .Paak opens for Disclosure on June 18 and is playing as part of Panorama.
