It’s finally starting to feel like fall! If you’re like us, you stepped out onto the sidewalk this morning, felt the crisp chill in the air, and immediately wanted to do something to take advantage of this perfect weather. To help you brainstorm some ideas, we asked the Time Out New York staff to share their favorite things to do this time of the year.
1. Every fall, it’s great to walk through Fort Tryon Park up to The Cloisters. The park is gorgeous this time of year, the view of the Hudson River is breathtaking and the spooky, gothic art at The Cloisters is perfect for October.
2. Throw on a cozy sweater, grab a coffee and go hang out around Washington Square Park, pretending you're still in college. Fall means school.
3. Wander! There’s nothing like a meandering fall day in New York City. Start in the morning on a Saturday and somehow you’re trudging home at midnight.
4. Haunted houses! Try hitting up Blood Manor.
5. Drink fresh apple cider and binge on donuts.
6. See a scary movie (especially a midnight one.) Nitehawk Cinema is playing a bunch. Jekyll and Hyde, guys!
7. Go to the Union Square Farmer's Market to see/get the new season’s produce.
8. Walk through Riverside Park for the best fall foliage views.
9. Go to thrift stores and buy lots of funky sweaters
10. Get out of the city over the weekend and go apple picking.
11. Stroll across the Walkway over the Hudson (Take the Hudson Line to the Metro North Poughkeepsie Station.)
12. Go to Storm King, it’s best in the fall. The leaves are amazing.
13. Drink heavy beers on tap at Proletariat.
14. Drink a hot chocolate in Bryant Park.
15. Eat alfresco in outwear and instantly feel like a chic European.
16. Take the air tram to Roosevelt Island. Walking around the island is fascinating (and a little bit creepy) and if you haven't seen the Four Freedoms memorial yet, you definitely should.
