The Magician has been the least-themed bar in New York city for years, eschewing tropes for cheap drinks, good tunes, a long, worn bar, plenty of tables suitable for big groups and a bring-your-own food policy with oodles of options to order from nearby. The more recent addition of outdoor seating and bright blue signage visible from a block away has shaken off some of its charming, divey dust, but its happy hour prices still skew a little closer to that category.

Time Out says
There’s no rabbit in a hat, or coins picked behind ears at The Magician—just good company and cheap drinks. A Lower East Side staple for decades, this unpretentious dive bar is a neighborhood favorite offering ample indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a moderately lit space that smells like beer and old wood. While the magic of after-work drinks and a good jukebox song won’t pull the wool over your eyes, you’ll feel just like Dorothy Gale when you leave the bar: in awe of what happens while sleeping. Bonus: You can book their private space at no fee for events!
