The Gates (CLOSED)

A night at this marble-walled, chandeliered venue can be a comedy of errors. When we visited the bar lacked the ingredients to execute the fruity, overthought cocktails that populate its specialty list. Bar snacks include atrocities like a cardboard pizza with congealed cheddar and funky barbecued pork, and veiny skewers of beef—not even an electric-green apple martini (a cocktail the bar was actually able to make) could wash them down. The Gates might not be a viable venue for dinner, but it’s certainly a contender to jump-start bulimia.
