An underage-drinking bust led to a rebranding (the bar used to be called Cheap Shots), but the formula remains unchanged: a large, rowdy crowd in a small, dingy room, five TVs tuned to ESPN, $5 beer-shot combos and Big Buck Hunter II next to the bathrooms. A sign behind the bar instructs, “Don’t hassle the ladies.” But if the patrons (usually a frattish mix) must be reminded, it’s a safe bet that the house rule is often breached. Rock stars seem not to have a problem, though, which might explain why indie heartthrob and East Villager Conor Oberst has been seen here playing air hockey with friends.
