There’s no kitchen at this amiable sliver of a bar– just plenty of can openers. Taking cues from the Spanish “conserva” concept, the international menu’s made up entirely of conserved, preserved and pre-made nibbles, aged hams and cheeses. The result is surprisingly varied and nuanced – a far cry from Green Giant & BumbleBee. Mini plates include red peppers splitting with pale-white bonito tuna; crumbly Gouda; Italian fennel-infused finocchiona sausage; and crispy bread baked with a splash of olive oil and kosher salt. Inside, it’s pure Smith Street: Brick walls, tin ceilings, flickering white candles, retro classroom maps, and sideburned regulars easing into the night over frothy beers and vino in stemless glasses.
