East Village bars are often a little rough around the edges. Not Mundial. The owners hired Sylvain Bazinet, a partner in Chelsea’s slick Open lounge, to revamp the former bar Totem. Bazinet brought in TV tables and a drop-down screen to show art videos—and occasional soccer games, as the name suggests—and he installed black slate floors and cedar paneling to update the look. The signature drink is the Mundial Mango, a frilly blend of mango vodka, triple sec and lime juice. But, as at any decent East Village spot, there are plenty of beers on hand, too.
