Time Out says

Bitter & Esters is one of New York’s most beloved destinations for all things beer. One of their most popular introductory courses is called Brewshop 101: Home Brewing Essentials. This is a totally hands-on program where participants create their own five-gallon batch of beer from scratch. Throughout the class, students also learn essential beer-brewing information, like the different ingredients that are used to create certain flavors and tips on avoiding common home-brewing pitfalls. Students are also given materials to take home and refer back to as they continue their home-brewing journey, as well as sample homebrews to taste. There is also a Cider Essentials class and a Homebrewing Essentials for Women program that are both perfect for students new to brewing beer.

Bitter & Esters isn’t just for beginners; they have more advanced courses available to help you continue improving your homebrew game.  They offer a Recipe Design: Theory and Practice class to teach experienced brewers how to create their own beer recipes, including practical information about which ingredients work best together. They also provide numerous lectures and tasting classes for advanced brewers who want to gain a deeper understanding of essential beer ingredients like hops and yeast.

Founded by friends and passionate brewers Douglas Amport and John LaPolla in 2011, Bitter & Esters has quickly become a trusted resource in New York’s brewing community. Not only do they offer top-notch educational programs, they are also a fully-stocked homebrew supply shop. Bitter & Esters has everything you need to create the home brewery of your dreams, from ingredients and equipment to fully-stocked starter kits complete with recipes, equipment, and everything else you need to brew beer in your home.

Former participants of Bitter & Esters classes report truly enjoying their experience. The instructors are reportedly extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the topic; it’s clear they enjoy what they do and love sharing their passion with others. The classes are described as being equal parts entertaining and informative, with many students appreciating the hands-on and interactive nature of the course.
