Time Out says

Arrive early to stake out a spot along the Hudson River for this annual contest in which tugboats travel from West 70th Street down to Pier 84 (we suggest staying at the southern end of the course so you can partake in the postrace fun). Among the scheduled activities are contests for nose-to-nose pushing—in which the bows of two tugboats are shoved against each other—and ones for Best-Dressed Crew and the Best Vintage Tugboat. Competitive spectators can also duke it out in a spinach-eating contest.
