Explore more than 130 of the French couturier’s gender-bending, avant-garde pieces, some of which are arguably closer to art than attire. (Admit it: A museum seems a fitting place for Madonna’s conical bra and Milla Jovovich’s costume from The Fifth Element.) The exhibit—which originated in Montreal, and has since traveled to parts of the U.S. and Europe—includes stage outfits worn by Beyoncé and Kylie Minogue; Oscar gowns donned by Marion Cotillard and Catherine Deneuve; Sarah Jessica Parker’s 2000 MTV Movie Awards dress, a camouflage chiffon number that took 312 hours to create; and Gaultier’s very first design, from 1971.
