"Bye Bye Kitty!!! Between Heaven and Hell in Japanese Contemporary Art"

Hello Kitty only appears in one photograph—as two figurines guarding a gravestone—though her specter haunts this exhibition featuring works of 16 Japanese artists. Japan Society looks at this new generation of artists who are driving past Kitty's culture of kawaii, or "cute," and addressing the economic, ecological and political concerns in the country.
