A charter member of the "Pictures" Generation, the artist is best known is best known for ghostly white-on-black renderings that over the years have dwelt on subjects related to ruins and a romance with the same, which accounts for his allusions to Nazi aesthetics and the aftermath of 9/11. But his real project, perhaps, has been to capture the vagaries of memory and its impact on culture.
