Rebecca Horn, "The Vertebrae Oracle"

In Horn's kinetic sculptures, clockwork mechanisms—slender metal rods, for instance, bobbing up and down like the antennae of an inquisitive insect—are secreted within naturalistic elements like barren branches. The results are more creepy than they are deistic, but they grab your attention. The show also includes an homage of sorts to Duchamp's rotary optical experiments.
