As an adjunct to her show at Maccarone, Carol Bove, along with Philip Smith, has organized this survey of the work of Lionel Ziprin, a little-known cultural figure on the Lower East Side during the 1950s and ’60s. An associate of Harry Smith (of Anthology of American Folk Music fame), Ziprin was a sometime filmmaker and graphic artist who was particularly enamored of the design potential of Mylar—even launching a company, Qor Corporation, to pursue the same. Some of the resulting mock-ups, prototypes and sketches are on view.
