The Met assembles some 265 treasures from the age of Alexander the Great (323–30 B.C.) and the Empire he created from Greece to the boundaries of India. On view are sculptures in marble, bronze and terracotta, gold jewelry and coins, engraved precious gems and other objects gathered from collections around the world. More than a look back at an ancient civilization, the show is a reminder of how Alexander’s conquest spread the Hellenistic aesthetic that would later lay the foundation for Renaissance art and Neo-Classicism.
