The meaning of Lopez’s show is obscure, as is the reason for presenting her latest sculptures together, though individually they are evocative. One room is dominated by a metal column meant to represent a flagpole—or so you can surmise given the lanyard dangling from it and the audio track playing the sounds of a flag flapping in the wind. Another gallery holds a series of large, architectural-quality glass plates, leaned against the wall. The top half of each is mirrored, yet hazy, a result of Lopez casually pouring silver nitrate on the back of the glass, then exposing it to light. The effect is a bit like the reflective properties of old daguerreotypes, coalesced into indistinct, cloudlike forms.
