Brown cites Chicago artist Roger Brown and American Gothic master Grant Wood as influences, and indeed, she shares their surreal, denatured approach to landscape and other subjects. Her latest paintings were inspired by a road trip that included a stop at Paradise Garden, a roadside attraction cum grotto built by Reverend Howard Finster, the legendary outsider artist and man of God.
