This survey of Chadwick (1914–2003) will bring New York viewers up to speed on the London sculptor, whose work followed up on the legacy of Henry Moore, the lion of British modernism. Chadwick shared Moore’s predilection for monumental outdoor sculpture with figurative overtones, but in contrast with Moore’s use of rounded contours, Chadwick’s sculptures were spiky and angular—echoing, perhaps, the Cold War era’s paranoid tone.
