Klara Kristalova, "Underworld"

Kristalova, who was born in the former Czechoslovakia and lives and works in Sweden, is a rising star in the art-world firmament, a status confirmed by concurrent shows at Galerie Perrotin uptown and Lehmann Maupin's Lower East Side location. Both spaces present recent examples of the artist's signature glazed-stoneware figurines, which stylistically recall folk or outsider art, while seeming to have stepped out of vaguely disturbing dreams.
