Best known as guitarist and vocalist for the alternative rock band Sonic Youth, Kim Gordon started out as a visual artist, a career she resumed after the group broke up, and she moved to Los Angeles from Massachusetts. The City Of Angels figures prominently in the her latest show’s centerpiece, a pile of flatscreens on the floor that shows a video of her walking around L.A. and playing her guitar by rubbing it on fence posts and other things on the street. Also on view are ceramic figurines and digital prints on canvas of people on a beach around a bonfire overlaid with crosshairs or boxes from facial recognition software—a meditation on how the things we thought were private, aren’t anymore.
