Katy Grannan, “Hundreds of Sparrows”

A more accurate title for Grannan’s show might be “Down and Out in Modesto, California,” as Central Valley’s marginalized denizens are the subjects of her videos and photos. Among the latter are portraits of street people. Posed against bright white walls, each reduced to the sum of facial creases and bodily scars thrown into sharp relief by the noonday sun.
